The Astronomical Observatory of the Gdańsk Autonomous Schools was opened on September 30, 2009. Over its 16 years of operation, it has welcomed thousands of visitors, while its equipment has been systematically expanded step by step. Today, as the only facility of its kind in the Tri-City, it offers the opportunity to observe the night sky in the beautiful surroundings of Gdańsk’s Old Town, almost in the same location where Johannes Hevelius’ observatory stood 400 years ago. His grave is located in the nearby St. Bridget’s Church, whose tower we use to demonstrate the telescope’s capabilities on cloudy days.
The observatory operates on school days, primarily hosting classes for students of schools run by GFO. At the same time, it is also open to external visitors.
ATTENTION – FOR EXTERNAL VISITORS, THE OBSERVATORY IS OPEN ONLY ON TUESDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS.
