The Podgórze Museum building, traditionally known as the Pod św. Benedyktem inn, was built as part of merchant Józef Haller's complex at the end of the 18th century, shortly after Podgórze was granted the status of a free city.

In the 19th century, it served as a military hospital and military and artillery facilities, among other things. In 1918, it was one of the first buildings to be liberated on Polish soil. In the interwar period and during World War II, the building was used for industrial and prison purposes. After the war, it served as a residential and utility building, and despite plans to demolish it, it survived.

In 2008, it was decided to establish the Podgórze Museum there. After a thorough renovation, the building was adapted to the needs of a modern museum institution and placed under the care of the Historical Museum of the City of Krakow.

Estimated time of the visit: 30 min.
