Description

Kwidzyn Castle rises on the edge of the picturesque Vistula river valley, about forty kilometers from Malbork, in a bend of the Liwa River. The castle in Kwidzyn is one of the most valuable and beautiful historic buildings in Powiśle. Together with the Cathedral, it creates the Castle and Cathedral Complex, a unique, monumental defensive complex, created from the merger of the cathedral church and the fortress. The result is a significantly elongated, approximately 120 m long architectural complex.Kwidzyn Castle was built as the residence of the Pomezanian Chapter - provost and canons taking care of the Cathedral. The most characteristic element of this stronghold is the sanitary tower gdanisko, with a brick porch supported by five monumental arcades.Currently, the castle houses the Castle Museum in Kwidzyn, a branch of the Castle Museum in Malbork. It has collections of arts, crafts, ethnography, history, archeology and nature. These are collections related to the city and the region.
